Kayla fell in love with storybooks at a young age.
When she was six years old and her grandpa asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, her response was instant and enthusiastic: “an author!” Later she pulled him aside to add artist to that future.
Not much has changed over the years. With a major in Fine Art and minor in Creative Writing, she has continued to pursue her dream of creating paintings and stringing interesting words together. She is the co-founder of Thingamatink, a book and toy pairing for kids ages 3-7. Her debut children’s book of the same name, The Thingamatink, was published in October 2016. Her passion is exploring the way written and visual communication intersect to create something entirely new, similar to an instrumental harmony.
When she’s not drawing or painting, she can be found making tomato soup from scratch, getting her groove on at the local dance studio, volunteering for animal rescue (because kitties! 😻), or getting breakfast with a good friend.
